The safety gate she had used in her former home was not going to work with her new home’s custom staircase with volute banisters and she was not willing to settle for a jerry-rigged safety gate. Unwilling to choose between safe and attractive, she got creative and The Stair Barrier was born.

Janelle devised a simple but innovative product that fulfilled the top two priorities that most mothers have when it comes to baby-proofing their home: their children’s safety and a design that won’t ruin the look of their home. After using the prototype at the base of her own stairs, many of Janelle’s friends started inquiring about the product, which ultimately inspired her to make it widely available to mothers everywhere facing the same issue.
