Find The Gate You Need

PRIOR TO PLACING YOUR ORDER, PLEASE DETERMINE WHICH CONFIGURATION AND SIZE WILL WORK FOR YOUR STAIRCASE.

The Stair Barrier gates are available in two configurations: Banister to Banister and Wall to Banister.

Each configuration comes in two standard sizes:

Regular: fits openings from 36" to 43"  Wide: fits openings from over 43" up to 52"

We no longer offer Wall to Wall or custom-sized gates. Please measure carefully and consult our how to measure guide or submit a photo for personalized support from our team.

Measuring for Banister to Banister:
Measure from the innermost edge of the 1st banister (see arrow marked in Fig. 1) to the innermost edge of the 2nd banister. If you have volute (curved) banisters where the spindles wrap around the banister, measure from spindle to spindle, as seen in Fig. 2.

Measuring for Wall to Banister:

Measure from the wall to the innermost edge of the banister (see arrow marked in Fig. 1). If you have volute (curved) banisters where the spindles wrap around the banister, measure from spindle to wall, as seen in Fig. 2.

How to Measure Staircase for Safety Gate

What if the width of your stairs are not exactly 42 inches or 52 inches?
The key is to be able to pull the Stair Barrier as tightly across the opening of your staircase as possible. If the width of the opening is within 2 inches, we recommend purchasing the smaller size. A gap of 1" between the fabric and the spindle or banister is within safety guidelines.

Conversely, if you do not have a riser at the base of your spindles, you'll be able to wrap the extra fabric around banisters and/or spindles.
With the many variations in stairs, there is not one process for installation that applies to all homes. With the Stair Barrier you can use the banisters, spindles, multiple spindles and combination of both to install the product. The key is to try multiple options and find the tightest fit that works for your stairs.
Often the answer to getting the tightest fit across your stairs is to attach the buckles to multiple spindles behind the banister.

If you are not sure what size or installation process will work best in your home, please email a photo to cs@stairwaysolutions.us. We are happy to help.
